The Western Reserve: A Tale of Innovation, Tragedy, and Discovery (History Talk)
Join Bruce Lynn, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, for a captivating presentation on the discovery of the Western Reserve. This 300-foot steel steamer, lost for 132 years, was recently found in 600 feet of water near Whitefish Point. Using side scan sonar and remotely operated vehicles, the GLSHS team confirmed the wreck’s identity, revealing new details about its tragic 1892 sinking. Lynn will share the ship’s remarkable history, the gripping tale of its sole survivor, and the challenges of deep-water shipwreck exploration in the Great Lakes.
