North Central Michigan College will present a free international lecture, “From Convulsion to Caliphate: The Creation and Challenge of ISIS” on Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m. in the Library Conference Center on the Petoskey campus.
Where did ISIS come from and what can the United States do to limit its impact? What hurdles do we face in confronting this unique terrorist group? Since the summer of 2014, the world has watched as ISIS has grown in strength and capability. Presidential candidates are campaigning on their differing strategies to reduce the reach of ISIS. Dr. Scott LaDeur, political science instructor at North Central Michigan College, will lecture on the threat of ISIS and potential U.S. responses. Dr. LaDeur has taught courses on terrorism at multiple institutions with one of them featured in a front page New York Times article dealing with President Obama’s response to ISIS.
Each semester, North Central’s International Committee, in partnership with the Michigan Global Awareness Consortium, brings international events to campus. Students and community members are welcome to attend all international events. These events are free. Call 231-348-6613 or 231-348-6705 for more information.
